I have noticed many redirect pages that I consider to be "duplicates" of the source page. I think an example will best explain this. The following two pages have identical names:
You can see here that the 'BOLT-52 cartridge' redirect page has the exact same wording as the source page: 'BOLT-52 Cartridge'. The only difference is the case of one of the letters. The search functionality on Fandom does not require this. Even a search for 'bolt-52 cartridge', in all lowercase letters, will find the main page.
This is resulting in inconsistent use across the wiki, and the inconsistency can even manifest on the very same page. Do we use the redirect page, or do we use the source page? For example, https://theouterworlds.fandom.com/wiki/BOLT_With_His_Name uses both the redirect page (with the lowercase 'c') and the source page (with the capitalized 'C') at the same time. At the time of this post, the redirect page is used in the Synopsis section, and the actual page is used in the Walkthrough section.
In situations such as this, my preference is to remove any references to the redirect page and mark it for deletion. In the example above, I would like to edit the quest page to only reference the source page. At that point, the redirect page would no longer be referenced anywhere else in the wiki, and I would then mark it for deletion.
Doing so would not affect our users' ability to search, it would remove an unnecessary redirect page, and I feel it would improve the consistency of the wiki.
My understanding of redirect pages is that they are specifically for cases where a page has multiple, valid names. Think of a redirect page for Darth Vader linking to Anakin Skywalker on Wookieepedia, or a redirect page for Ruth Bellamy linking to Halcyon Helen on our wiki.
This would likely be quite an undertaking, and I have no desire to cause stress on the administrators if said undertaking is considered vandalism.
