There are four Difficulty Settings in The Outer Worlds. Players select their preferred difficulty at the start of any playthrough of the game, but can raise or lower the difficulty later on. The exception is Supernova difficulty, which can only be selected at the beginning of a playthrough; the difficulty can be lowered below Supernova at any time during a playthrough, but it cannot be raised back afterwards.[1][2]
