Edgewater is a Spacer's Choice company town located in the Emerald Vale on the planet Terra 2. Its primary function is supporting the operation of the town's Saltuna Cannery which is supervised by Reed Tobson. The town's power comes from the local Geothermal Power Plant and shares its power with the region's Botanical Labs.

Background[]

When the Stranger arrives in Edgewater, the town is struggling. It has been several seasons since the town has seen any visitors[1] and a significant proportion of its population has fallen ill with a plague that began in the last few years. The plague is caused by poor diet and began when the cannery began experiencing a shortage of saltuna and had to stretch its supplies by adding other ingredients to its mixture including wood chips, mushrooms, sand, and canid bits.[2][3] However, the town's leadership claims that it is caused by poor work ethic and that only lazy workers contract the plague.[4] There is insufficient medicine to go around and it is only given to those who are deemed deserving of treatment.[5] The situation has led many of Edgewater's residents to desert the town, several joining a growing camp of Deserters led by former saltuna flavor specialist, Adelaide McDevitt, who are based at the Botanical Labs.

One of the few remnants of hope of the community comes from the words and teachings of Maximillian DeSoto, a vicar of the Order of Scientific Inquiry who can be found tending his flock at the Vicarage.

Overview[]

The north of the town holds the main employer, the Saltuna Cannery on its northern wall with an entry on the east and west walls. Moving south, the Maintenance Division is on the eastern side and the Order of Scientific Inquiry church to the west. At its southernmost point the Constabulary, cantina and general store, along with the final exit, barber shop and sick house are located here. The town is patrolled by corporate guards.

The compass within the city has been rotated 45° counterclockwise, cardinal directions will reflect the city map

Starting from the south (south west entry from Emerald Vale), the cantina can be seen directly ahead and as one moves forward, the sick house is on the left corner. Immediately on the right just past the sick house is the Emerald Vale Barber Shop and beyond it the road forks directly west and north east around the cantina. Turning to the north east, the general store can be seen and beyond it to the north the Order of Scientific Inquiry church. Passing the church leads to the eastern exit and the Edgewater Landing Pad. To the left of the door is a gap between the wall and the building within which a locked (20 Lockpick and 3 Mag-Pick) bin can be found by turning left halfway up. A larger bin can be seen just behind the crate in this alcove which can be accessed by going around the other side of the building, jumping the barrels and crawling under the wall fitting; this crate most notably contains a FunTimes Barrel and a Thug Kit.

Turning west, the northern side of the road is engulfed by the Saltuna Cannery. In line with the first building on the right is an archway which leads to a doorway directly into the cannery's factory floor. To the left after passing the archway is the central pathway back outside the cantina; continuing on leads to the cannery's main entrance on the right and past this on the wall directly ahead is another entrance to the cannery's storage. Turning left of the door, the final exit out into the abandoned outer districts can be seen to the right. Continuing down the street one will see the Maintenance Division, Parvati Holcomb's home on the right, the constabulary directly ahead and to the left another alcove which contains three Mag-Picks and two unlocked bins. To the left of the constabulary is a pillar with three bounties.
