Ash, a grizzled old veteran in the Amber Heights Bar, has asked you to track down a keepsake box from his old mercenary unit.

Little Memento is a quest in the Outer Worlds.

Walkthrough[]

This quest is received by speaking to Ash who is located in a bar in Amber Heights (the one which is not occupied by Graham Bryant). He will tell the Stranger about missing his old mercenary unit and asks them to retrieve a lockbox which contains some keepsakes to remember them by. He says that finding this box will give him closure about what happened to them. Ash will mark an outpost on the map where the unit spent a lot of time. He will also give the Stranger a keycard which will unlock the door to the outpost.

The outpost is located southwest of the Forlorn Crossroads and can be reached by following the road south from Amber Heights, past Fallbrook. The location will be occupied by Marauders and one Scrap Mechanical. There is only one accessible building near the bridge. Unlock the door and enter to find the outpost long-abandoned. Investigate the terminal in the corner of the room to find some clues as to where the mercenaries may have gone. One can also read the Electronic Log on the table which suggests that Ash may have been lying when he said that he was part of this mercenary unit.

The entry "FROM: Lamont" on the terminal indicates that the mercenary unit fled to a camp near a waterfall to be picked up as part of the evacuation from Monarch. The waterfall is south, do not follow the road but cut cross country south from the outpost. There will be a small land bridge crossing the river (which the aforementioned waterfall falls into). Cross the bridge to find a small camp occupied by Marauders and Canids.

There are a number of corpses in a crater to the west of the camp, including those belonging to the mercenaries. The keepsake box can be found by interacting with a skull in the ground.

Return to Ash. He will provide a reward of 625 bits. When turning in the quest, if the log in the outpost was read about Ash's true identity, the Stranger can confront him about the truth of the story. This will lead to Ash providing an additional 250 bit reward for their gumption, for a total of 875 bits.

Investigate the Outpost Ash has pointed you toward one of his unit's old outposts.
You've found the outpost, but the mercenaries aren't here. They must have left some clues as to where they went.
Find the Mercenaries It looks like the mercenaries packed up and fled to a nearby waterfall. If they're there, the keepsake box is likely with them.
The mercenaries appear to have met a grisly fate in the jaws of the Monarch wilderness. Perhaps one of them had the box in their possession.
Return to Ash You found a locked box of mementos from Ash's old mercenary unit.
You found a ledger that seems to indicate that Ash was never a part of the mercenary squad using this outpost.

You found Ash's old lockbox and returned it to him.
