Olivia Ambrose

Olivia Ambrose is a character in The Outer Worlds. She is the mother of Wilhelmina "Minnie" Ambrose.

Background[]

Understanding Halcyon was "in the midst of a slow moving crisis", she looked into creating a drug that would help the inhabitants discover a way out of the impending disaster, though she admits there was an element of selfishness too.[1] During Project Gorgon, Olivia tried to keep Minnie away from it to protect her from Spacer's Choice.[2]

She first noticed something was awry when the volunteers for Adrena-Time experienced horrific deaths which were met with muted responses from Spacer's Choice.[3] What drove her over the edge was when they released a preliminary version of the drug to the public which brought about terrible consequences.[4] Driven out of a mixture of anger, grief, and horror, she attemped to sabotage the Gorgon Project.[5] She shredded the personnel files in the Office of Creative Incubation, which alarmed Clarence Mostly.[6] She then released the test subjects from Human Inquiry & Auditing, frustrating Marion Blakeslee.[7] She also released the primals from the Compound Harvesting, Enrichment, & Molecularization Lab, aware of the fact they killed the scientists.[8] She opted not to destroy the facilities completely for two reasons: she was not willing to kill so many staff members, and she didn't want to give up on her research.[9] She blamed Spacer's Choice for the failure of Adrena-Time, convinced that it needed more support, though she admitted some faults of her own.[10]

She stayed on Gorgon, driven by a desire to reverse the Marauders' condition without success.[11] She did not let her daughter know she was alive, in order to keep Minnie safe.[12] She survived on a canned diet, and had a few close calls with Marauders over the years.[13]

Since her body was never recovered from Gorgon, Olivia was declared "legally dead" by her daughter. Her husband, Harvey, also died on Gorgon[14].
