Reputation is a metric for tracking the Stranger's status with the various Corporations and groups encountered in The Outer Worlds.

Charm[]

Charm can increase or decrease the amount of reputation the stranger can get during conversations. Charm can be temporarily increased by up to +4. Doing so before turning in a quest can increase reputation gained from the quest.

Repute is measured in both positive and negative percentages. The extent to which the Stranger has positive and negative reputation with a faction will impact on their reputation description in the journal, the prices they receive from faction-affiliated vendors, and the hostility of faction members when they are encountered:

Faction hostility

Reputation gains can be made up to +50% by equipping Charm (or Personality) increasing items and consuming alcohol before turning in quests that give reputation rewards. The same, plus having SAM in the party with his Cleaner perk can also reduce losses by up to 70%.
