Roscoe's drinks are on the house. We all know how it feels to get left behind.

Lex

Roscoe Clanton is a former journalist and resident at the Sprat Shack.

Background[]

Roscoe was a journalist from Byzantium. He got into the job hoping to become a public intellectual, but quickly recognized the reality of his job meant spending the majority of his time writing articles on trivial matters.[1] He ended up doing an interview series on Project Gorgon seven years ago, which led to his arrival on the asteroid.

He had an assistant, Georgie, who helped with the interviews and other administrative tasks. He recorded the interview series on portable phonographs. During this time, he noticed someone had been trying to steal those phonographs, even to the extent of breaking into his safe. When the Project went out of control, he hid them around the asteroid wherever he could.

When Project Gorgon was shuttered five years ago, Spacer's Choice refused to let him leave as they determined he had not met the terms of their contract. Taking responsibility for the contract, he shoved Georgie onto the last Spacer's Choice ship leaving the asteroid, hoping she could make a better life for herself on Byzantium.

As his contract was still ongoing, he needed to recover the recordings that he had done. Although he attempted to slip out of the asteroid with SubLight Salvage and Shipping Corporation, the Board's "fixers" always found him and sent him back. By the time he meets the Stranger, he has been on Gorgon for seven years, lacking the means to recover his phonographs.
