"You've disrupted the balance of power. You've upset the natural order of things. You've introduced uncertainty. And there's nothing I despise more than uncertainty" - Akande, to the Stranger

Sophia Akande is the Adjutant of Halcyon Holdings Corporation. She is a major player in the future of the Colony and depending on player actions may be a villain or an ally to the Stranger.

Background[]

According to her Sophia has spent her entire life fighting for Halcyon. Her position as Adjutant allows her to work closely with Chairman Charles Rockwell on matters of great importance such as the food problem in Halcyon. Slowly but surely the Board came to realise that Halcyon was dying. The produce grown had less and less nutrition than was necessary for survival and as a result disease and starvation would soon spread. As a result the Adjutant began work on the Lifetime Employment Programme, a system devised for which colonists across the system would be systematically frozen and revived in order to ration the food supply. All while the city of Byzantium continued running freely. She has devoted most of her life to this work and takes it very seriously.

Three years before the Stranger was awoken by Phineas Welles, Halcyon lost all contact with Earth. All messages ceased and no more communications were received. Making matters worse was the Board sent the Earth Directorate Frigate, Cornelius Vanderbilt, back to Earth two years before and it too vanished without a trace. Nobody knows what happened to Earth or the Frigate. Without the lifeline of the entire colony the Halcyon System was forced to fend for itself. According to Sophia's data Earth has experienced a 'Massive Calamity' and that something terrible must have happened to it. Any attempts at communication ultimately failed.

When the Stranger was revived by the rogue scientist Phineas Welles, the Adjutant was intrigued. She began watching them during their time in Emerald Vale. Intrigued by the potential of the lost colonist and what good they could do for the Board and the rest of the Halcyon.

Quests Merchant

Sophia Akande is first met by the player on their passage through Byzantium. This can be achieved either by completing Radio Free Monarch on Phineas Welles' path or Balance Due on the Board's path. She will hold the Stranger in high regard if they diverted power from Edgewater to the Botanical Labs, saving her the costs of having to run a failing outpost.

If she has not been killed up to that point, Akande will serve as the main antagonist for the final mission Brave New World. When arriving at the last floor of The Labyrinth, she will greet you via computer, berating your way of always spoiling her plans. However, unlike Chairman Rockwell, she can be reasoned with, provided you can pass enough difficult skill or character checks. In which case, she will allow you free passage to Phineas Welles and flee Tartarus. Otherwise, you will have to fight an automechanical warden, then proceed to kill Akande for good.

If spared, she has a section of her own in the epilogue sequence. It will be said that she never was seen again, but that the Stranger's final conversation with her may have changed her outlook on Halcyon and that she might be the source behind a large anonymous donation of resources provided towards the cause of saving the colony.

  • She does not drop her uniform on death.
  • Even if she is killed prior to Brave New World, Sophia is the 2nd only character in the game who will always be present and alive, no matter what.
