Sublight Salvage and Shipping is a corporation which operates from the Groundbreaker. Sublight is a network of "salvagers" with business ties to "transportation" and "waste disposal". A tangled web of contractors and secretive vice presidents make up their official hierarchy, leaving no one to speak on the record about SubLight's more legally dubious activities.
According to director Lilya Hagen, operating off of Groundbreaker, SubLight "occupies a legal blind spot. No one knows what [they're] licensed to do, and that gives [their] little business some freedom." As a result, Sublight as a business operates activities that would be considered illicit by some, amoral by others, and at odds with the Board, such as the takeover of abandoned space habitats, smuggling contraband, and serving as a front for companies to bypass the infamous Hazard Clause applied on Monarch. SubLight maintains an office aboard the Groundbreaker as well as a settlement on Monarch known as Fallbrook.
MardetLeonard Wheeler tries to warn the Stranger about the SubLight, saying it "gives him the creeps" since the rumor has they not only strip the parts from derelict ships, but they actually make them derelict.[1]
↑Leonard Wheeler: "They strip the parts from derelict ships and abandoned outposts. There's some that say they make derelicts and "encourage" folk to abandon their steads. SubLight gives me the creeps. I've known folks who went to work for them and just... vanished."
