The Outer Worlds Wiki

Thomas Kemp is one of Edgewater's deserters residing at Botanical Labs.

Background[]

Thomas used to work at Edgewater's Saltuna Cannery where he would closely follow around Parvati Holcomb. He pretended to be eager to learn from her, when in reality his interest in Parvati was mostly romantic.[1]

Whereas the other deserters chose to quit work in hopes of a better life, Thomas was fired due to a lack of skills. When he was barely scraping by alone in the wilderness, he was taken in by Adelaide McDevitt and her fellow deserters, whom he lied to and told that he was a proficient engineer.

Related Quests[]

  • The Frightened Engineer: When the player meets Thomas in Botanical Labs he admits to not knowing anything about engineering. He tasks them with finding three parts of an engineering guide so that he may learn what he pretended to know. If his quest is completed he will send a message to the player's terminal in The Unreliable to thank them.
  • Comes Now the Power: If the player speaks to Parvati after leaving Reed Tobson's office, she asks them to speak to the Vicar. He suggets trying to convince the deserters to come back to Edgewater. The player needs to divert the power to Edgewater, then speak to Adelaide. She tells them to speak to Grace or Thomas to convince the deserters to go back to the town. For Thomas to agree, the player needs to either complete The Frightened Engineer, A Few Kindred Spirits or convince Reed to leave. Once Stranger in a Strange Land is completed, he will move to the Maintenance Division in Edgewater.

Notes[]

  • If the player completes The Frightened Engineer and provides Thomas with all three manuals, Thomas will eventually send the player a message on their personal terminal aboard the Unreliable. It appears under [Messages for (Player's name)] and may disappear after being opened, rather than remaining archived in the terminal. It reads as follows: "From: Thomas Kemp To: (Captain's name) Subject: Thanks! Hey there, Could be I'm making a fool out of myself for sending you this message. I've been up all night poring over those manuals you brought me. There's a good chance I'm pretty delirious right now. I just wanted to thank you for going through the trouble. You didn't have to help me out, but you did anyway."
